On the occasion of the opening of his shop this week, we met with the perfume editor Frédéric Malle. “The first time I have seen Jakob + MacFarlane's work, it was back in 2000, at the Florence Loewy bookstore, rue de Thorigny in Paris. Then there was the Georges restaurant, located of the roof of Centre Pompidou, that I also really liked. When I knew that I could dispose of this place located close to the galeries, but in a very crowded street, I went to them to talk about my desire to open a shop.
In our culture, buying is meaningful enough : those who choose a perfume wear it for years. My idea was to open a quiet place in which it would feel like time had stopped. The place being quite small, the idea of hanging mirrors came to me very quickly. Dominique Jakob and Brendan MacFarlane came with reflecting metal flat tints covering the floor, the walls and the ceiling.”
