Since 2011, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon have been renewing the language of Kenzo – the brand founded in 1970 by Kenzo Takada – with a joyful mix of electrifying prints. The success of their Opening Ceremony concept stores was no doubt partly due to the memorable events they put on, which brought together everyone cool in New York, from Spike Jonze and Chloë Sevigny to Michel Gondry and Björk. Humberto and Carol excel in creating spectacular Kenzo runway shows that are both interactive and aston- ishing. This party spirit and inventive- ness are also to be found in the capsule collection they’ve just designed for H&M. Floral and animal prints, jumpsuits and Tibetan-inspired dresses pay homage to the talent of the brand’s founder, mixing cultures in a Pop spirit. “We wanted to do something truly unique and define a vision of our brand through a contemporary lens,” says Humberto. The Kenzo x H&M collection speaks to different generations,” continues Carol. “Young people will join the gang of those wearing our clothes.”
