Christophe Honoré’s refreshing music video for “Le jour” by Calypso Valois
Calypso Valois, the daughter of Elli Medeiros and Jacno, unveils a refreshing first video directed by Christophe Honoré.
Christophe Honoré almost needs no introduction. The French director got famous with his movies midway between musicals and traditional narratives, imposing himself as the worthy successor of Jacques Demy. Hand-by-hand with his partner-in-crime Alex Beaupain, he incorporates brillant musical interludes to his full-lengh features including the multi-award winning Les Chansons D'amour, or La Belle Personne starring Léa Seydoux. These film extracts are staged so nicely that they could even exist out of the narrative, like a few videoclips designed to ponctuate the story.
Hence the fact that he is a natural in command of a clip for the young Calypso Valois, daughter of the cult 80's duo Elli & Jacno. Originally an actress (she played in Olivier Assayas and Michel Gondry's movies), she started her musical career under the name Cinéma, as a synth-pop duo with Alexandre Chattelard. Le jour is the first track from a solo EP that she wrote and composed by herself, supported by the great new-wave artist Étienne Daho. As a result : a radiant pop video that ressembles her, including kisses and slaps in face at the rate of the snappy lyrics of the song.
