Michael Kors' moodboard
Designer Michael Kors shares one of the images that inspired his latest collection.
The American designer told Numéro about the enigmatic nude that inspired his autumn/winter-2015 collection.
Numéro: Who made this image and where did you find it?
Michael Kors: It's anonymous and I found it quite by chance while doing research for my fall/winter-2015 collection. This image had a big impact, because it perfectly represents the mix of night and day that characterized my runway show, through its striking contrast of light and shade. This balance, or rather this confusion of the boundary between night and day, was an important theme in the collection: the daywear was punctuated with ornament while the most extravagant evening looks were tailored like simple T-shirts.
The photo shows a female nude, but the body has something rather masculine about it. Did this inspire the mix of masculine and feminine that was very present in your collection?
In truth it didn't have any influence on that aspect of things, but I do see what you mean. We really integrated into our women's wear strict, functional details that were borrowed from men's wear. Glamour is cut with simplicity, the opulence of fur is contrasted with a certain reserve… It's the natural attraction of opposites.
