The Givenchy fall-winter 2022-2023 show
"I really wanted to create a synthesis of powerful sophisticated femininity, with an interplay of multiple American and Parisian influences, sports and craftsmanship. Next to her stands a contemporary man with an instinct for chic nonchalance. On the runway, both are grounded by a sense of reality," Matthew M. Williams explained about his fall-winter 2022-2023 collection for Givenchy. He imagined outfits in which the house's couture heritage meets his own more streetwear world. Faded jerseys were layered, sequins and pearls adorned denim, tailoring was boxy, while little transparent silk dresses were delicately hand-embroidered or decorated with ruffled flounces. There were also wool dresses with ruffles inspired by the world of sports, in spectacular colours and mesh. Coats held a special place in the collection, in XXL versions that hugged the body, worn nonchalantly over a sweater and straight trousers, while for men, Givenchy revived urban and casual silhouettes.
