Adored as much by Instagram-addicted kids (he has over 1.2 million followers) as the fashion industry (he was a finalist for the 2015 LVMH Prize), Virgil Abloh, artistic director/DJ/designer/ex-creative director for Kanye West, has in just four years succeeded in reviving American fashion.
The prolific designer who unashamedly mixes understated tailoring with streetwear codes, has since the beginning of the year been popping up pretty much everywhere. A runway show at Pitti Uomo in Florence as well as collaborations with Moncler and MyTheresa confirmed the status of this personality. And is hasn’t gone unnoticed by Nike either.
With The Ten, Virgil Abloh deconstructs to better reconstruct ten iconic designs that have made their mark on sneaker history, from Air Force One to Air Max via Converse and one of newest kids on the block, Vapor Max.
Divided into two themes, “Revealing” which uses cuts and reconstructions on Air Jordan I, Nike Air Max 90, Nike Air Presto, Nike Air VaporMax and Nike Blazer Mid and then "Ghosting” where translucent plastic reveals the inner structure of the Chuck Taylor’s Converse, Nike Zoom Fly SP, Nike Air Force 1 Low, Nike React Hyperdunk 2017 and Nike Air Max 97, The Ten collection brings the DIY aesthetic bang up to date all while celebrating the ultra-innovative nature of sneakers.
