During the Golden Globes ceremony, Oprah Winfrey was presented with the Cecil B. DeMille award, a special honour celebrating her entire career. Oprah is the first black women to ever receive this accolade. The height of the evening’s events was her eloquent acceptance speech “What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have. And I'm especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their personal stories.” The day after this emotionally charged evening, the name Winfrey was lingering in everyone’s minds and started to circulate in political spheres: and what if Oprah did run for the Oval Office?
Just as the American press ruminate this possibility, the Swedish label Weekday, fanatics of pop culture and daily news, launched their newest t-shirt emblazoned with “Oprah 2020”, a political gesture that once might have seen improbable, but in the wake of Donald Trump, anything now seems possible. This piece is part of Weekday’s “storemade” concept entitled Zeitgeist. This concept was launched in France with a “Brigitte” t-shirt celebrating Emmanuel Macron’s wife.
The “Oprah 2020” t-shirt and tote bag are available in a selection of Weekday boutiques and on their website.
