Johnny Depp seems to have always found a sanctuary in music. Since 2015, the American actor has been a member of the hard rock band Hollywood Vampires alongside Alice Cooper and Joe Perry (the lead guitarist of Aerosmith). He has also played the guitar with Vanessa Paradis, Iggy Pop, Eddie Vedder and Patti Smith. After a much-discussed defamation trial, which opposed him to his ex-wife, the actress Amber Heard, the artist who has just joined TikTok seems to yearn, more than ever, to play his favourite instrument.
Even before a verdict was reached in the trial (early June) and both actors were found guilty of attempting to damage the reputation of the other, Johnny Depp appeared on stage in the UK with the English guitarist Jeff Beck. But the Sleepy Hollow star does not intends to call it quits. The release of an album in July jointly produced by Johnny Depp, the American actor, and Jeff Beck, the British musician, was announced at a concert in Gateshead (a town in the north of England).
The collaboration follows a cover by the duo, who have known each other for five years, of John Lennon's Isolation, posted on YouTube during one of the 2020 confinements. While the career of Tim Burton's former muse seems to be at a virtual standstill (apart from an appearance in Maïwenn's next film, Jeanne du Barry, scheduled for 2023), the 58-year-old artist, who is still the face of Dior's Sauvage perfume, may now have found salvation in rock'n'roll.
The album by Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp (whose title has not yet been revealed) will be released in July 2022. In concert on 23rd July 2022 at the Jardin Sonore festival in Vitrolles.
