Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix… AI is set to resurrect the 27 Club.

Music

Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse... For its "Lost Tapes Of The 27 Club '' project, the Over The Bridge organisation has come up with posthumous songs performed fictitiously by members of the "27 Club''. Indeed, all these tracks were created from scratch using algorithms and vocal sound-a-likes.

“You're Gonna Kill Me” - Lost Tapes of the 27 Club [Jimi Hendrix]

Curing mental distress through music. That's the goal of the Toronto-based organisation Over The Bridge, which describes itself as "a lifeline for people in the music industry." Indeed, the Canadian group supports the most vulnerable members of this industry, those who find themselves in a situation of mental distress or caught up in an addiction, by accompanying them and helping them to complete their projects. Since its launch in 2017, Over The Bridge has already helped 2,000 people in the music industry. But if we are talking about it today, it is mainly because the organisation has launched a very special experiment to raise funds: the Lost Tapes of The 27 Club...

The project? A compilation of virtual tracks recreated by artificial intelligence. And not just any tracks: fictitious songs performed by vocal impersonators of the members of the 27 Club, that famous posthumous meeting of smoking hot musicians who all died at the age of 27. The idea of this club was first mooted after the deaths of Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones and Janis Joplin in 1970 and became common parlance after Kurt Cobain's suicide in 1994. Over the past few months, the Lost Tapes Of The 27 Club compilation has been developed by Over The Bridge using two separate software programs - one for the melodies and rhythms, the other for the lyrics in a style very close to that of their authors - and the tracks have been entirely reinterpreted by vocal impersonators. We can thus discover Man, I Know, a soulful track in the style of Amy Winehouse, the explosive You're Gonna Kill Me, by an ersatz Jimi Hendrix, or Drowned in the Sun, which really does seem to resurrect Kurt Cobain...
