Why fans were disappointed by the return of the Spice Girls

The Spice Girls (minus Victoria Beckham) were making their big comeback on May 24, 2019, at the Croke Park Stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Long awaited by fans, the concert was acclaimed for the costumes and stage direction but the sound quality was a disaster.

Sensational outfits, 1990s hits, full stadium… The Spice Girls’ concert was on track to be a success. But on May 24, some of the fans were very disappointed. Their expensive tickets were not the guarantee of a good show. Some fans took to social media to share their unhappiness: they could not tell songs apart nor understand the Spice Girls when they talked. Some even decided to leave the stadium…

Emma Bunton, Geri Horner, Mel B and Mel C got on the stage of the Croke Park Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, for their first concert since 2007. Fans were eager to see the reunion tour despite the absence of Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice). The four singers appeared in amazing outfits, reminiscent of their characters (Geri wore the Union Jack, Mel B a leopard print, Mel C a sporty outfit and Emma was wearing pink), and sang their greatest hits.

The comeback tour of the Spice Girls is meant to be inclusive. They started the show saying: “We welcome all ages, all races, all gender identities, all countries of origin, all sexual orientations, all religions and beliefs, all abilities.” While Mel B took to Instagram saying she hoped for a better sound quality for the rest of their tour, the second show was also a disappointment. More fans left the Cardiff venue on May 27.
