Originally from Turin, Carlo Mollino was famous for his work as a designer and architect, his love of fast cars and acrobatic planes… Then 2000 erotic photos were found at his home after he passed away. Endless shots of women in suggestive poses testify to his talent for photography. Standing in a corset and suspenders, seated on a chair legs akimbo, nude backs and derrieres, gazing defiantly back at the photographer. But more than just a load of cheeky pictures they attest to a certain artistry with their carefully composed mise-en-scenes, their delicate – if sparse – attire and their yellowy-orange grain. Occasionally Carlo Mollino would paint his Polaroids making them blurred and giving them a dreamlike aesthetic.
For the women’s fall-winter 2018/19 Moschino pre-collection, creative director Jeremy Scott pays tribute to the talent of the photographer and features his Polaroids over coats, jackets, dresses in velvet and flounced chiffon as well as bags. The leather thigh boots in red or black contrast with the colours of the clothes in a palette of yellow, brown and green. He revives the silhouettes of these unknown women while celebrating the feminine physique.
