La liste des nommés aux Grammy Awards a été dévoilée ce mardi et elle fait déjà couler beaucoup d’encre. On peut d'abord saluer la diversité dont elle fait preuve avec la présence du jazzman noir américain Jon Batiste, qui obtient onze nominations et devance ainsi Justin Bieber et ses huit nominations. D’autres artistes noirs comme Kanye West, H.E.R. et Doja Cat ont également été sélectionnés, ce qui constitue un progrès par rapport au manque de représentation d'origines multiples qui avait valu de nombres critiques aux dernières éditions des Grammy Awards. "Ces nominations reflètent la beauté du paysage musical d’aujourd’hui, varié et diversifié", a déclaré Harvey Mason, président de l’académie américaine décernant ces récompenses.
Aux côtés de ces artistes, figurent des figures de la jeune génération telles Billie Eilish et Olivia Rodrigo, qui avec Justin Bieber, dominent les nominations des Grammy Awards. Mais des valeurs sûres telles que le crooner de 95 ans Tony Bennett qui a récemment collaboré avec Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, 51 ans, AC/DC, ABBA et Paul McCartney (79 ans). D’autres nominations posent par contre beaucoup plus de problèmes et divisent l'industrie de la musique.
Marilyn Manson, accusé par plusieurs femmes d’abus sexuels et DaBaby, qui a tenu des propos homophobes et misogynes, se retrouvent étrangement sur la liste des Grammy Awards car ils sont au casting du dernier album de Kanye West, Donda, qui fait partie de la sélection des meilleurs albums de l’année 2021. De quoi encore alimenter les griefs contre l'institution américaine qui avait déjà fait par le passé l'objet de commentaires négatifs de la part de The Weeknd. Le chanteur a annoncé en mars dernier boycotté les Grammys car il déplorait le manque de transparence concernant les comités en charge des nominations.
Mais ce n'est pas la seule audace des Grammy Awards cette année. Les humoristes américains Louis C.K. et Dave Chappelle, qui ont tous les deux faits l’objet de controverses ces derniers mois, se retrouvent également plébiscités dans cette course prix très médiatisée. Un parti pris qui pourrait s'avérer encore plus critiqué si ces deux artistes faisaient partie des lauréats. Le verdict tombera le 3 avril prochain lors de la cérémonie qui aura lieu à Los Angeles et sera retransmise sur la chaîne américaine CBS.
