Pour la collection Dior haute couture printemps-été 2020, la créatrice italienne convoque l’artiste Judy Chicago, pionnière de l’art féministe américain. Dans les jardins du musée Rodin, une installation monumentale ouverte au public jusqu’au 26 janvier et intitulée The Female Divine se veut une éloge du pouvoir de la femme, au-delà de la procréation. La collection, quant à elle, interroge la puissance créatrice des femmes.“What if women ruled the world?” (“Et si les femmes régnaient sur le monde?”), questionne Judy Chicago.
Pour répondre à cette interrogation, Maria Grazia Chiuri puise son inspiration dans l'ère antique, une thématique que l’on retrouvait déjà à travers les cariatides, statues de femmes portant un enfant, dans la collection couture automne-hiver 2019. Cette fois-ci, c’est à la figure de la déesse grecque Athéna, d'après ses représentations les plus communes, que la créatrice fait référence : robes drapées, péplums, épi de blé et des couleurs délavées s'imposent dans cette collection couture au raffinement extrême.
